Corporate Financial Reporting

Course description This program objective is to produce students who can read and understand financial statements and related disclosures. Specifically, the major will further develop student skills in analyzing and interpreting financial information including financial statements and the notes to the financial statements. For students to meet this objective, it will develop their critical thinking as well as their analytical and quantitative skills.

Subjects covered Curriculum (a five course requirement beyond MBA 800 and MBA 801) - Base Courses (Required): AMIS 824 Corporate Financial Reporting; AMIS 842 Financial Statement Analysis. Recommended Accounting Electives: AMIS 822 Assurance Services and Information Quality; AMIS 823 Managerial Accounting for Decision Making; AMIS 825 Advanced Accounting Analysis for the Controllership Function; AMIS 827 Information, Incentives, and Control System Design; AMIS 828 Financial Information and Valuation; AMIS 829 Financial Accounting Analysis; AMIS 846 Business Tax Planning; AMIS 848 Financial Instruments, Derivatives and Hedging; AMIS 894.30 Merger and Acquisition Reporting and Analysis; AMIS 894.31 Data Mining for Business. Recommended Finance Electives (a maximum of two courses): FIN 811 Financial Decision Making; FIN 821 Seminar in Corporate Finance; FIN 822 Security Markets; FIN 823 Special Topics in Investment Management; FIN 828 Cases in Corporate Finance; FIN 829 Risk Management and Financial Engineering.

Entry requirements Applicants must have a baccalaureate or professional degree from an accredited college or university by the expected date of entry with a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative point-hour ratio (on the 4.0 scale used at this university) in all previous undergraduate and graduate work. GRE test scores, a minimum score of 550 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), 82 on the Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB), or 7.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) are required. The minimum score on the computer-based TOEFL (CBT) is 213. The minimum score on the Internet-based TOEFL is 79. This requirement applies only to an applicant from a country where the first language is not English, unless a bachelor?s degree or higher was earned in an English-speaking country.
