Export Development and Foreign Sourcing
The curriculum of instruction is guided by the common conceptual thread of utilizing internationalization to enhance local economic development efforts — in essence, teaching our students the skills necessary to succeed as economic development professionals within the context of an international economy, while also providing the foundational skills of the economic development profession. The economic development (ECD) concentration is grounded by the requirements of a traditional business school curriculum along with ECD courses to prepare students for practicing economic development in the global economy. The Program is available fully online for professionals through Troy University eCampus.
This program places high emphasis on advancing the applied economic development skill set of the student. For example, ECD 6699 — Seminar in International Economic Development — brings economic development practitioners into the classroom to educate students through “real world” economic development experiences, which cannot be found in a traditional textbook. Another key component of the curriculum is the requirement of all students to gain economic development field experience (ECD 6680). By capitalizing on the global infrastructure of Troy University, our students have the opportunity for various assignments, from internships for economic development organizations to participating in international economic development programs and research projects throughout the world.
